Course Description:
This course is the NRA First Steps Shotgun Course. Topics covered include:
- Fundamentals of Firearms Safety
- Children and Firearms
- Types of shotguns, their parts and Operation
- Ammunition and its function
- Gun Safety Rules
- Selecting a Shotgun, Cleaning, Storage and Transportation
- Shooting Fundamentals and the opportunity to develop them (live fire)
- Shooting Positions
- Live Firing
Upon successful completion of the course students receive a NRA Completion Certificate.
Course Length:
4 to 5 hours (Approximate).
Please arrive at 8:45 AM at the Virginia Pistol Facility

Number of Students: Minimum 2, Maximum 4 (PLEASE NOTE:) If the minimum number of students required has not been met two days before your scheduled course date, we reserve the right to reschedule your course date.
Student Must Provide:
Baseball cap to wear during live fire for safety reasons.
Appropriate attire for the weather on the day of the course (for outdoor live fire)
Must Student Provide a Shotgun?:
No, shotguns are provided
NO AMMUNITION IS ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM!!
Classroom Location: this course is conducted at the Virginia Pistol facility located in the Linden Business Center, 5267 John Marshall Highway Linden, VA. CLICK HERE for directions.
Course Prerequisites:
Student must be at least 18 years of age to attend without parent present. Students as young as 12 years of age may attend with at least one parent also present during the entire course. The parent, unless also desireing to attend the course and receive a completion certificate, does not have to pay the course cost. NO SHOTGUN EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
