Course Description:
This informative course provides basic handgun safety, handling and marksmanship instruction as well as self defense and concealed handgun permit instruction including: proper selection of a handgun and equipment, concealed carry laws and self defense mindset.
This course is ideal for both the new or novice handgun shooter and an experienced shooter as well!

This informative course is held in a small personal class of NO MORE than 8 students!
Your instructor for this course is Mr. Jim Johnson who is the owner and Chief Instructor for Virginia Pistol. Jim has 13 years of law enforcement experience, is a NRA Certified Personal Protection Handgun Instructor, is a graduate of the Glock Firearms Instructor Workshop in Smyrna, Georgia, and holds certification as a Master Firearms Instructor from Phoenix State University.Click here for more information on Jims qualifications
This course not only provides you with the fundamentals of safety and handgun marksmanship, but will also provide you with self defense disciplines that could help you survive a life threatening situation!
In addition to basic pistol marksmanship and safety concerns, the following instruction is also provided:
- 2 handed standing shooting positions
- Flash sight picture (self defense sight alignment)
- Concealed carry techniques and holsters
- Differences between practice and self defense ammunition
- Virginia concealed carry laws
- Physical and psychological effects of a self defense encounter
- Self Defense Mindset
- Cartridge failures
- Emergency handgun malfunction clearance actions
- Proper firearm storage and transportation
- Proper handgun and equipment selection
- Fundamentals of handgun marksmanship
- Proper loading and unloading of your handgun
- Proper cleaning of your handgun
- How handguns function
- Live Fire Instruction using our state of the art Laser Training Simulation Room!
Upon completion of the course students receive a Completion Certificate which you may provide to the courts to obtain your concealed carry permit.
Course Length:
8 to 9 hours (Approximate). Actual time varies based on student Q&A, progress, and if everyone arrives on time.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be 10 to 15 minute breaks every hour, and a 45 minute to 1 hour lunch break..

Must Student Provide a Handgun?:
No, however if you own a handgun you feel is suitable for concealed carry/self defense, that handgun should be brought to class. The handgun will be inspected by instructor to determine if it is safe and proper for use and if it properly fits YOU!.

Course Prerequisites:
Student must be at least 18 years of age, be prepared to provide photo identification, and must complete registration and waiver form.
NO HANDGUN EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
